White Picket Fence - Homage to Paul Stra

Locke, CA

The farmland in the Sacramento Delta was built through reclamation agriculture by the Chinese people who lived here.  By California law, the land could not be sold to them, so they had to lease it from white owners. They endured racism and hardship that is not announced nor amplified, and the texture of their scars of that endurance are etched everywhere.  Locke is a living memorial to their past; their ghosts are resilient sentinels, their immortality is in every crevice, every fence, every wall.
