Mermaid Parade, Coney Island

A parade after my own heart: the Mermaid Parade is the East Coast's answer to the Doo-Dah Parade of Los Angeles.  Irreverence is king, outrageousness is prince, eccentricity and anachronism are duke and earl.  The mavericking spirit is more akin to avant garde than to pomp and circumstance (Marcel Duchamp, eat your heart out).  If you are not having fun here, you’re taking yourself far too seriously.
