1 - Understanding How Separations Are Made

Instead of making one exposure with color film in a film camera, or with a digital camera, the same subject is photographed on black-and-white film three times in succession: one exposure with a red filter, one with a blue filter and one with a green filter (does not have to be in this order).



The black-and-white film is developed, producing three separation negatives similar to the black-and-white images at right in the picture above.
